Shaggy, Choco and Erick

  CHOCO, Owner and Instructor

Choco was one of the first surfers in Samara. He and a small group of guys began surfing in the late 1980s. He later went on to surf in National Competitions (Circuito Nacional de C.R.) for many years. He currently is ranked #3 in Costa Rica in Longboard (2009) and was Pre-Selected to represent Costa Rica in the Billabong World Surfing Tournament in 2008 .

Well-known for his smile and friendliness, Choco was one of the founding instructors at C&C Surf School and was the lead instructor and manager from 2004-2008. Upon the sale of C&C, Choco opened his own school, fulfilling a long-held dream. His first love is surfing and he enjoys the opportunity to teach and share his surfing secrets.

SHAGGY, Instructor

Shaggy began surfing when he was ten years old. His natural ability and drive were highlighted in 2007-2008 when he won First Place in his category in Costa Rica's National Surfing Competition (Circuito Nacional de Surfing). Since his win, he has continued participating in local and national competitions.

A favorite with tourists for his quick humor and effortless English, he has been giving classes for 2 years. When he's not working, he surfs, studies English and attends college.

ERICK, Instructor 

Erick is originally from San Jose, but his desire to surf daily led him to Samara in 2005. A consistent and strong surfer, Erick participates in local contests as well as the San Jose Surfer Annual Competition in Jacó.

Erick has worked for many years as a surf instructor and he's well-known for getting even the most difficult surfing students to ride the waves. His fluency in English, friendly and helpful spirit make him a popular instructor with students of all ages and abilities.

  CRISTHIAN, Instructor

Cristhian is from Playas de Coco and began giving surf lessons with Choco in mid-2009. Like other instructors at Choco's, he has many years of teaching and coaching experience. He speaks English fluently and is very patient and encouraging with beginning surfers.

 In his free time, he participates in local and national surf tournaments and is also a well-known reggae DJ throughout Costa Rica and Europe. If he's not surfing or giving classes you'll find him behind a turntable in some of the best clubs in Costa Rica.
